Bucketlist item needed checking
I will admit it, I go through my phases that I read medieval romance novels. Understandably then you can’t help but wonder what it would be like to live in a Irish castle! So, when we decided to go to Ireland what a perfect time to experience this bucketlist item. After some research we chose the five star Dromoland Castle in Ireland. This holiday trip was part of our fall excursion with my Mother, Sister-in-law Tina and cousin Cathy. Kevin was our tour director, lol.
Ireland’s Dromoland Castle
Located near Clare, Ireland we flew into Shannon airport and had only 8 mile ride to the castle. As we pulled up and exited our car, it felt surreal looking at the Irish castle. It looks just like all their photographs on their web page, just spectacular. Our check in was very efficient and friendly. I personally loved hearing their accents! Soon we were shown to our cozy and lovely rooms all with a wonderful view of lush green land that Ireland is known for. Unfortunately, I do not have photographs of the rooms, I was not a travel blogger at the time. But take a look on their web site for all the warm and cozy rooms Dromoland Castle have to offer.
Time to try some new things!
Golf
Where do I start…how about with some golf! If you love to golf then the course at Dromoland Castle is for you. This was only my second time golfing and I loved it! The golf club provided everything we needed and off my husband and I went. The stunning views included lakes and wildlife so it worth going golfing just for this experience.
Clay Shooting
One activity I never tried and that was clay shooting. I have to say I was not very good, the guns are pretty powerful and being my first time I end up being a little sore in the shoulder the next day. But, I’m glad I gave it a try, it was fun!
Archery
I can proudly say I beat my husband at archery! Maybe because I was pretty good at it, but I really liked this sport. Did I mention I can be very competitive at times?
Cart and Pony Ride
Next up was the pony and trap ride through the castle grounds. This particular activity was for Tina, Cathy and myself. So as we all three climbed into our cart we made sure we had our bottle of wine and glasses to sit back and enjoy. Our driver filled us in on some of the history and mysteries that involve the castle and nearby areas. What a fun experience, we really had a good time.
Falconry
My favorite activity we tried that Dromoland Castle had to offer was the falconry. I believe it was also my Mother’s favorite, she didn’t even flinch when the bird came swooping down to land on her arm. They are a remarkable bird to behold. Intelligent, fast and incredible eyesight I was in awe with these amazing creatures! Did you know that they have been recorded to have speeds up to 200 mph? Subsequently, this makes them faster then any other animal on our planet! Our falconry experience was a walk through the woods learning all about falcons and enjoying them landing on our arms and sending them off up into the trees. Next, we were then brought to where they house the falcons and other birds. Falconry for me was the highlight of my trip, I throughly enjoyed this learning experience.

Dining at the castle was a wonderful experience
The Earl of Thomond Restaurant in the castle is set in a very elegant and formal setting. Therefore, gentlemen need to wear a jacket and no denim at all. Their menu is filled with delicious selections. With four of us at each meal we were able to try many selections over our 4 days at the castle. Kevin will be writing his food blog soon to help you visualize yourself tasting this delectable cuisine.
Time for Spa
Of course I had to give their spa a try! After all the activities I participated in I needed a massage and facial. The spa at the castle is a very tranquil and calming space. I was happy to see they use Elemis products that I am very familiar with and love. This was a great way to end our stay at Dromoland Castle.
In conclusion
I don’t believe we could of asked anymore in our castle in Ireland holiday. Dromoland Castle in Ireland was fabulous in every way; restaurants, accommodations, activities, location to airport and day tours offered. I highly recommend this castle hotel, it lives up to it’s 5 stars and more. Without a doubt, we will revisit one day for a little getaway!
